Public sector union to hold rally on Wednesday
The umbrella union representing Greek public sector workers, ADEDY, has called for a rally to take place on Wednesday in protest at government plans to streamline the civil service with mergers, privatizations and possibly staff firings.
Greece is under pressure from its international creditors to increase revenues and drastically reduce its civil service bill by taking measures that may see as many as 25,000 state employees being placed on a mobility scheme by the end of the year.
The ADEDY protest has been called for 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday at Klafthmonos Square on Stadiou Street. It coincides will a Europe-wide anti-austerity protest planned by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
