Two questioned for extortion after demanding money from patient’s parents
A 38-year-old Greek German and a 46-year-old Italian German were being questioned on Friday after being accused of extortion by the parents of a 28-year-old patient who is in a coma in an Athens hospital.
According to the parents, they were approached by the two physiotherapists, who work at a rehabilitation center in Germany and said that they could pull strings at the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) to get the parents’ request to have their son transferred to the facility in Germany approved.
They demanded a 9,000-euro advance on their 12,000-euro “fee,” and were arrested while taking the money from the parents.
