High winds keep ferries moored in ports
The Hellenic Coast Guard on Friday imposed a partial ban on sea travel due to strong winds reaching up to 9 Beaufort in parts.
All scheduled departures from Piraeus of high-speed ferries and flying dolphins destined for the islands of the Argosaronic were canceled, foiling the travel plans of many aiming to abandon the capital for the long weekend. Ferries to Salamina were also canceled as were departures from Salamina’s port of Faneromeni to Pachi, in Megara.
Scheduled ferry departures from Rafina and Lavrio to the islands of the Cyclades were also canceled due to high winds as were those from the port of Volos in central Greece for the islands of the Sporades.
The ferry crossings of Rio-Antirio, Kyllini-Zakynthos and Igoumenitsa-Corfu were also suspended.
