Police detainee escapes from Thessaloniki hospital

A 32-year-old man who had been awaiting transfer to prison where he has been sentenced to serve eight years for theft escaped from the Ippokrateio Hospital in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, where he was being treated for injuries on Monday.

The man was reportedly wearing slippers and had one of his legs wrapped in bandages as he left the clinic in a taxi.

The suspect was being held at the Evosmos police station.
