Trikala convict identified in Mandra shootout

One of a group of men who shot at police officers after being pulled over for questioning in Mandra, northwest of Athens, last week, has been identified as one of the four suspects in a deadly shootout in Corinth earlier this month.

Police have named Ilir Kupa as being one of the four men involved in the death of a motorist who was caught in the crossfire between police and the suspects following an armed holdup.

The further identification of Kupa as one of a group of convicts who escaped from Trikala Prison in March has led investigators to believe that the Mandra assailants are all escapees and were involved in the Corinth shootout as well.
