TV channel cleared of wrongdoing for SYRIZA MP’s ‘call to arms’ broadcast
The Greek National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) cleared Mega TV on Tuesday of any wrongdoing after it played in January edited footage of SYRIZA MP Vangelis Diamantopoulos (photo) apparently issuing a «call to arms.»
ESR found that the TV station played the video as it was part of a statement put out by the government and that it also aired SYRIZA’s response. The footage contained edited sequences of an address by Diamantopoulos, which led to government spokesman labeling the leftist lawmaker «terrorist-friendly.»
SYRIZA accused the government of «forgery and disgusting provocation.”
