Police, SYRIZA clash over alleged abduction of Turkish activist
The Greek Police said on Monday that they would launch an investigation following claims by the main leftist opposition party SYRIZA relating to the alleged abduction of a Turkish activist, identified as Bulut Yayla, but the force said it had no official records documenting the latter’s presence in Greece.
The police’s statement added that the Turkish national had expressed interest to the Greek Council of Refugees in applying for asylum but, despite being issued with a date to visit the Athens Aliens’ Bureau last month, he failed to turn up.
SYRIZA had earlier accused Greek authorities of covering up the Turkish activist’s abduction.
