Policeman, 26, dies in apartment after gas canister blaze
The fire service and police in Thessaloniki were on Friday investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 26-year-old riot police officer whose charred body was dragged from the remains of a fire in a rented apartment in the coastal area of Psakoudia on Thursday.
According to sources, the fire broke out on Thursday afternoon following several explosions provoked by a natural gas canister’s detonation. The authorities would not confirm whether the death was believed to be manslaughter or accidental.
