Mother faces charges of killing baby and hiding body in refrigerator

A 31-year-old mother of three was to face a prosecutor in the western port city of Patra on Wednesday after being accused of killing her three-month-old infant and hiding its body in a refrigerator in a warehouse, the Athens-Macedonia News Agency has reported.

The infant was found on Tuesday night by its father in a refrigeration unit in his warehouse in the village of Alpochori in the prefecture of Achaia.

Investigators believe that the 31-year-old mother beat the infant boy and threw him into his cot, which did not have a mattress, causing fatal injuries on Saturday. The mother is then believed to have tried to hide the fact of the baby’s death the following day by hiding his body in her partner’s warehouse, where it was discovered on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old has another two children, twins aged 16 months, which have been placed with a children’s welfare group.
