Civil servants, hospital doctors to hold work stoppages this week

Civil servants will walk of the job from 11 a.m. on Tuesday to show solidarity with local authority workers’ attempt to mount a legal challenge to salary cuts.

The municipal workers’ union, POE-OTA, has appealed against the unified public sector wage structure introduced in October 2011. The case is due to be heard in court in Athens on Tuesday.

The civil servants’ union, ADEDY, has called a 48-hour strike for September 18 and 19.

State hospital doctors said on Sunday that they would take part in the strike and would hold a work stoppage between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
