Hellenic Vehicle Industry workers move strike to Tuesday

Workers with the state-owned Hellenic Vehicle Industry (ELVO) on Monday said that they would be moving their planned protest march to Tuesday from Wednesday, adding that it would still take place in central Thessaloniki, starting at the northern city’s main chourthouse and ending at the Macedonia-Thrace Ministry,

The head of the ELVO workers’ union, Theodoros Aliongas, said that the date of the protest rally was changed because representatives wanted to push for a meeting with Minister Theodoros Karaoglou before he meets with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in Athens on Wednesday.

The union is protesting the government’s plans to put ELVO up for privatization along with other key state assets.
