Greek food scheme seen helping over 800,000 people by year-end
More than 800,000 people are expected to have benefited by the end of a year from a free food distribution scheme being organized by the Agricultural Development Ministry, sources said on Tuesday.
The food program, which is subsidized by the European Union, has an annual budget of 25 million euros.
Food handouts are organized across the country by more than 1,000 organizations ranging from churches to local authorities and charities.
