Teachers opt for start-of-term strike, participation expected to be low
Regional secondary school teacher unions (ELME) are in favor of holding five-day rolling strikes starting today, Kathimerini understands.
Eighty-eight ELME unions have backed plans for a strike by the Federation of Secondary School Teachers (OLME) in protest at the transfer of hundreds of educators to other parts of the public sector. A final decision to strike will be made during a meeting of ELME representatives Monday.
Observers however said that the low number of teachers who turned up to vote on the strikes – between 10 and 20 percent, according to some estimates – suggests participation in a potential strike will be limited.
