Seven students arrested for vandalizing Zakynthos schools

Police on the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Tuesday arrested seven students in connection with a spate of vandalism on two school buildings in the center of the island’s main town.

Two of the students, aged 19 and 20, attend the local night school, while the other suspects are aged between 12 and 17 years old.

They are being accused of breaking into teachers’ offices, and smashing their desks and chairs, among other acts of vandalism.

A Zakynthos prosecutor ordered that all seven students be granted conditional release while police continue to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, students and parents gathered outside the Zakynthos courthouse to protest the arrests.
