Greek President Papoulias says Greece must deny fascism space
Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Wednesday expressed his “obvious outrage” at the fatal stabbing of 34-year-old rapper Pavlos Fyssas by a 45-year-old man who has allegedly admitted to being a supporter of extreme right-wing party Golden Dawn.
He called for efforts to fight fascism to be stepped up.
In a statement, Papoulias noted that it was time to assume responsibility and stressed the need for “political decisiveness” in the battle against a repulsive phenomenon.
“It is our duty not to allow any space whatsoever to fascism – not even an inch,” Papoulias concluded in his statement.
Meanwhile, a number of anti-fascist demonstrations were expected to take place across Greece on Wednesday afternoon.
