Third man shot at Golden Dawn offices in ICU after surgery

The third man who was shot outside Golden Dawn’s offices in northern Athens on Friday night has undergone surgery and was in a critical condition on Saturdya.

Doctors performed a splenectomy on the victim, named as 29-year-old Alexandros Gerontas, after he was shot by two gunmen who killed two Golden Dawn members outside the neofascist party’s offices in Neo Iraklio.

In a statement, the Giorgos Gennimatas Hospital said that Gerontas had been transferred to the intensive care unit.

Gerontas’s mother told Skai TV that her son was a sympathizer rather than member of Golden Dawn and called for no more blood to be shed.

“Alexandros is battling, his injuries are very serious,” said the victim’s mother. “His heart and vital organs have not been damaged. Let God protect all the children of the world.”

The two men killed in the attack have been identified as Argyris Kapelonis, 22, and Giorgos Fountoulis. The motives behind the attack, which is being investigated by the anti-terrorism squad, are unclear.
