Suspected fraudsters officially sacked from Greek seamen’s fund
The six employees of the seamen’s healthcare fund arrested last week on suspicion of fraud were officially suspended from their jobs on Tuesday on the order of Merchant Marine Minister Militiadis Varvitsiotis.
The six are alleged to have attempted to defraud the organization of 1.1 million euros.
One of the six suspects, a unionist, was also removed from the fund’s executive board.
According to reports, the woman in question represented DAKE, the New Democracy union, and was on a secondment at the office of Education Minister Constantinos Arvanitopoulos.
