Man, 28, beaten to death during dispute over back pay in central Athens

A 28-year-old man was beaten to death in central Athens late Tuesday during a dispute over back pay, reports said Thursday.

The victim reportedly turned up at a restaurant near Omonia Square to help a female friend who was owed back wages. The 43-year-old owner then called in a 39-year-old bouncer who assaulted the victim wearing metal-lined gloves.

The victim was punched and kicked unconscious, witnesses said. He later died in hospital.

The 39-year-old bouncer was arrested by members of DIAS motorcycle riding squad who were notified by witnesses. The restaurant owner has also been arrested for instigating the attack.
