Two Golden Dawn members given jail time over bar arson
An Athens court on Wednesday handed down jail terms of three years and and five months to two members of the ultra-right Golden Dawn party who were found guilty of carrying out an arson attack on the bar of a Tanzanian immigrant in Amerikis Square, near central Athens, in May.
The two men, identified as Nikos Papavassiliou and Giorgos Perris, will be able to pay off their sentences, for around 12,500 euros each, Kathimerini understands.
The pair admitted to firebombing the Tanzanian man’s store, telling the court that unidentified migrants had carried out knife attacks on the premises and had been “raising hell” in the neighborhood.
