Policemen convicted for helping Albanian nationals illegally obtain Greek citizenship
Four policeman and three other people were convicted on Thursday in Thessaloniki of helping numerous Albanians illegally obtain Greek citizenship between 2000 and 2003.
The police officers, who served at the Ano Poli precinct, a lawyer and two Albanian men are alleged to have received up to 3,000 euros for each case of citizenship whose attainment they assisted in.
They were found guilty of forming a criminal organization and using forged documents but were released after appealing the verdict.
Another three policemen and an Albanian man were cleared of any involvement.
