Police sweep in central Athens leads to six arrests
Six people were arrested and another 94 detained during a police sweep in central Athens on Sunday night.
The six men arrested were migrants.
One was arrested for forgery, the others for not having proper residence documents, police said.
Twenty of those detained were charged with begging.
The police also revealed on Monday that the latest round of the Xenios Zeus operation, which is a clampdown on illegal immigrants, led to 49 people being arrested in central Athens between December 14 and 20.
Almost 14,000 knock-off items being sold on the capital’s streets were also seized.
So far, 5,546 migrants have been arrested as part of Xenios Zeus, which began last year.
