Ministry to present troika with plan for layoffs on Jan. 15

The Administrative Reform Ministry is expected to present troika representatives with a plan for 11,000 layoffs in the civil service on January 15, the day that the envoys are expected to return to Athens, Kathimerini understands.

Apart from briefing the troika on the 11,000 dismissals that must be carried out by the end of 20124, Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is also expected to present them with a plan for the induction of another round of 12,500 civil servants into a mobility scheme of forced transfers and layoffs.

Foreign envoys will also be expecting to see a final plan for the dismissal of 4,000 civil servants in 2013, for which the government secured an extension until early this year. It is expected that the 4,000 staff will come from state organizations and agencies which face are to be merged or abolished. The dismissals will be carried out after legislation outlining the changes is voted on in Parliament later this month.
