Man charged in Volos for questioning motorist’s ethnic identity

A 39-year-old man in Volos, central Greece, is facing charges of illegal weapons possession and use of force after allegedly forcibly stopping a motorist on a rural road on Wednesday night and demanding to know whether he was of Greek or foreign origin.

The driver of the car, who was also carrying a passenger, allegedly told police the 39-year-old was wearing a T-shirt with the logo of ultranationalist party Golden Dawn and allowed the motorist to drive off only when he responded that he was Greek.

A search of the suspect’s home uncovered a number of illegal knives and material suggesting he is a supporter of Golden Dawn.
