Police trace Xeros phone calls, start probing contacts
Police on Tuesday questioned the father of two convicted members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group after phone records revealed that he had received a call on January 1 from Christodoulos Xeros, the November 17 member who subsequently failed to return from his prison furlough.
According to sources, Panayiotis Nikolopoulos said Xeros had simply called him to wish him a happy New Year as the two men had met when the father went to Korydallos Prison in Athens to visit his children.
Officers said they would be following up all the numbers Xeros called before disappearing, including two residents of the island of Icaria who are not known to the police.
