Fugitive ethnic Greek arrested for Rendi DIAS murders
A 26-year-old ethnic Greek from the former Soviet Union was arrested on Thursday in Menidi, northwestern Athens, in connection with the murder of two members of the police force’s motorcycle-riding DIAS squad in March 2011.
Giorgos Emertzidis was apprehended close to his mother’s home, police sources said. The 26-year-old, and two accomplices, were given two life sentences each in March of last year for the murder of Giorgos Skyloyiannis, 22, and Yiannis Evangelinelis, 23, in Rendi, southwestern Athens.
The two officers died after Emertzidis and his accomplices opened fire on them following a car chase.
