Police officer’s body found in Thiva after possible suicide

Police in Thiva, central Greece, were investigating the cause of death of a 26-year-old police officer who was discovered by fellow policemen in his residence with a single gunshot wound to the stomach last Thursday.

Early police reports suggested the shot had been fired from the victim’s service weapon.

Police were examining the possibility of the death being an suicide, although the 26-year-old left no note and there was no evidence to suggest that there was any motive for such an act.

Fellow officers were alerted to search for the victim when the 26-year-old failed to appear at a series of police seminars he was supposed to attend in Athens.
