Three detained at gold mine protest

Three people were detained in northern Greece on Friday after protesters clashed with police during a rally against a gold mining operation in Skouries, in the northern part of the Halkidiki peninsula.

Police were called in to disperse the crowd after some 100 residents gathered in front of the headquarters of mine operator Hellas Gold in the latest in a long series of protests against the mine that have often led to violent clashes between residents and authorities.
