Second PPC worker dies in work-related accident in a week

A worker died on Monday at the Public Power Corporation lignite mine in Ptolemaida, northern Greece, becoming the second work-related fatality in one week at the plant and prompting an internal investigation.

The unnamed worker was found dead by colleagues at the land restoration area, where he had been working alone.

Last week, a 56-year-old worker at the same plant died after falling into a water reservoir.

The union representing PPC workers, GENOP, suggested on Monday that staff shortages were to blame for the accidents.
