Police discover large weapons cache in Kaminia home

Police on Thursday discovered a large arsenal of weapons in the home of a 57-year-old man in Kaminia, a suburb of Piraeus.

The discovery was made after the suspect was stopped in Piraeus by officers of the motorcycle-riding DIAS squad during a routine check. They found two old bayonets, a sword and 302 grams of gunpowder in his possession, prompting a search of his home.

The home search revealed hunting rifles, handguns, hand grenades, dozens of knives and ammunition, as well as two glass jars containing more than 1.6 kilograms of gunpowder.

The 57-year-old man will face a Piraeus prosecutor for questioning.
