Two men arrested over May 9 murder in Exarchia
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of murdering an 82-year-old woman in her apartment in Exarchia, central Athens, on May 9.
According to officers, three Moroccan men had staked out the Filipino woman’s apartment and forced their way in through the door. They tied up the woman and her 3-year-old great-grandson then stole a laptop, mobile phones and jewelry.
The woman was found dead when her grandson returned from school.
The child had not been harmed.
The arrests were made after one of the suspects, a 35-year-old who was wanted for a number of burglaries, was arrested. He allegedly confessed to breaking in to the woman’s home.
The second suspect, 33, was subsequently taken into custody by police, who are searching for a third Moroccan man, aged 28.
