Cyber crimes unit warns of new e-banking malware

The police’s cyber crimes unit has warned e-banking users to protect themselves against a new computer virus that helps criminals steal their details.

Officers said that the malware, dubbed EMOTET, is spread via e-mails, with bank customers’ receiving what looks like a genuine invoice from their lender. They are then invited to click on a link in the e-mail, which installs the virus.

This allows the criminals to bypass secure connections when bank customers log on for e-banking services. Whoever wants to find out more can contact the police via the following e-mails: [email protected], [email protected]
