Another university upset by mobility scheme protest
The prestigious Athens Medical School will struggle to operate this week as administrative staff strike to protest their inclusion in a troika-imposed mobility scheme in the civil service.
The action comes less than a week after staff at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) halted nearly three weeks of strike action that had threatened to jeopardize the summer semester. The NTUA staff called off their action after receiving reassurances that all employees in the mobility scheme would be rehired. Similar protests have caused upheaval at other academic institutions.
University staff are among many groups of workers in the mobility scheme who plan to join a 24-hour strike called by the ADEDY civil servants’ union on Wednesday.
In a related development, students at the NTUA’s architecture faculty voted to consider the summer semester lost in a bid to draw attention to the teaching hours they have lost due to strike action.
