Olympiakos fan linked to arson attack on PAOK player’s cafe

A 30-year-old man arrested in Athens on suspicion of setting fire to a cafe owned by Giorgos Tzavellas (photo), who plays for PAOK soccer club, is the head of the Ilioupoli branch of Olympiakos supporters’ club, sources said on Tuesday.

Sources told Kathimerini that the suspect traveled to the UK on the same flight as Olympiakos players and officials for a Champions League game against Manchester United even though he had been banned from leaving the country due to a previous drug offense.

The 30-year-old was arrested in the early hours of July 4 with a 27-year-old friend.

A 28-year-old woman has also been taken into custody in connection with the arson attack which occurred late on April 17 after a fractious Greek Cup game between PAOK and Olympiakos in Thessaloniki.
