Teachers, school guards hold sitin at minister’s office

Teachers and school guards enrolled in a mobility scheme involving forced transfers and layoffs on Wednesday held a sitin protest at the office of Education Minister Andreas Loverdos in central Athens.

Protesters, who requested a meeting with Loverdos to voice their demands, left the premises after he reportedly agreed to meet with them next week.

Reports said a meeting between the two sides will most likely take place on Wednesday.

Loverdos, a socialist, has previously called for the rehiring of a large number of public sector workers who have been put in the scheme.
