New Piraeus mayor expresses objections to port sell-off

Incoming Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis on Tuesday expressed objections to the planned privatization of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) following a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

He told reporters that he did not see eye to eye with Samaras on the planned sell-off “because our commitment and our position… is that the port must retain its public character.”

Moralis noted, however, that he agreed with Samaras that the port’s operation should “benefit the city of Piraeus, which has not been the case to date.”
