Teachers found playing hooky

Hundreds of schoolteachers believed to have been relieved of their duties in favor of less demanding desk jobs in the past few years have come under the scrutiny of the state body overseeing inspections of public administration, known by its acronym SEEDD.

Of some 2,500 names given to SEEDD by the Education Ministry for examination, a significant proportion are believed to have been relieved of their teaching duties without good reason, such as a health problem that prevents them from carrying out their classroom obligations, Kathimerini understands.

According to the report, there are some instances, chiefly involving schools in eastern Attica, where 65 percent of teaching staff had failed to fulfill the legal minimum of teaching hours, sources said.
