Man who fell on Athens metro tracks being treated for serious injuries

A 35-year-old man is being treated at KAT Hospital in northern Athens after being struck by a metro train on Monday morning in what authorities believe could have been an attempted suicide.

The unnamed man fell onto the tracks at Doukissis Plakentias station, forcing the driver to apply the emergency brakes. However the 35-year-old was struck by the train and suffered serious injuries to his arm and other parts of his body.

The police is investigating the incident, which caused delays for several hours on Line 3 of the metro system.
