Thessaloniki Mayor calls for unity government

Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris called Wednesday for the formation of a national unity government.

“Political stability is absolutely necessary so everything can progress with the debt issue, growth, business, investment: everything,” Boutaris told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency. “For me, the best thing would be for [Prime Minister Antonis] Samaras, [Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos] Venizelos and [SYRIZA leader] Alexis Tsipras to sit around a table and say: ‘Guys, let’s get the ship out of the storm and then we can decide who governs,’” he added.

The Thessaloniki mayor also expressed opposition to the public sector evaluation scheme that the government is trying to implement. However, he did add that his municipality would cooperate with the government so employees can be assessed.
