Teachers, school guards end protest after minister consents to meeting

A protest on Friday by school guards who have lost their jobs and teachers placed in a civil service mobility scheme that saw dozens of the state workers entering the Administrative Reform Ministry in central Athens and shouting slogans from the rooftop ended without incident.

Police were dispatched to the ministry to contain the protest, which was held to demand that staff who had been let go be rehired, though an intervention was unnecessary.

The protesters left after Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis agreed to meet with a delegation of representatives on Monday.
