Athens flood damage assessed, compensation payments to begin

The process of paying out up to 1 million euros in damages to the owners of homes, businesses and cars that were damaged during flash floods in Athens on Friday is due to begin on Monday.

The fire service completed its assessment of the damage in several neighborhoods on Sunday and sent its report to the Interior Ministry. According to reports, 580 properties and 168 cars were seriously damaged in 25 municipalities.

The Interior Ministry is expected to officially request compensation for the flood victims on Monday. Homeowners are to receive between 1,174 and 5,869 euros to restore the damage done to their properties.
