Evros River rises above warning level as more rain expected

Ahead of expected rainfall this weekend, authorities in the Evros region of northeastern Greece said on Friday that they are on alert for flooding.

The Evros River, measured at Pythio, reached 6.35 meters on Friday, well above its warning level of 5.7 meters.

There were reports on Friday of the water breaching some flood defenses but not to such a degree that it posed a danger to residents.
