Attica waste management technical studies canceled
Technical studies aimed at paving the way for the construction of four waste management plants in Attica were canceled on Monday. Acting on the recommendation of Governor Rena Dourou, a regional authority board withdrew the tenders for the four projects.
Dourou, elected in May, vowed to scrap the projects after arguing that there was not enough consultation before the schemes were finalized and put to tender. The move could also lead to Greece missing out on 200 million euros in European Union structural funds that had been earmarked for the projects.
Dourou’s decision has brought her into conflict with the government, which wanted the projects to go ahead.
