New highway still in limbo

The government approved a few days ago the payment of another 19.8 million euros to the firm that has constructed the 77-kilometer new Maliakos Gulf section of the Athens-Thessaloniki highway even though it has not yet been opened to traffic, Kathimerini has learned.

The payment to the Aktor-Terna consortium is for various works on the sections between Raches and Stylida, which was completed in September but has not yet been opened to the public.

The government says the delay is because the concessionary company, Kentriki Odos, had to construct toll booths. The firm denies this.
