Large weapons cache discovered in Thessaloniki raid

A 56-year-old Thessaloniki man faced a prosecutor Thursday after officers seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition from a scrap yard in the area of Xiropotamo.

A raid on two vehicles in the yard turned up five rifles, two revolvers, three pistols, nine hand grenade, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, as well as brass knuckles, knives and clubs, police said.

The suspect had been convicted of gun possession and grievous bodily harm in the past and his appeal against the convictions had been pending.
