Probe launched following delays in arresting pedophile
An administrative holdup prevented authorities from arresting a 40-year-old suspected pedophile before Tuesday, when he was caught with a minivan that he used to lure children and where he would abuse them.
Police identified the suspect as Filippos Leventos and released his mug shot.
Officers, however, said they are not sure how many children the suspect, who allegedly groomed his victims on the Internet, abused.
It appears that authorities could have stopped him earlier as a case file on Leventos’s alleged activities was first sent to the Athens prosecutor’s office in August last year.
However, a series of delays meant that authorities postponed their investigation into the case.
Prosecutor Ilias Zagoraios launched a probe into the apparent failings.
