Uncle suspected of throwing baby niece off balcony
The 26-year-old uncle of a 4-month old baby who allegedly threw his niece from the fourth-floor balcony of an apartment in Vyronas, eastern Athens, was in a critical condition in hospital on Thursday after jumping from the building.
The child was killed in the fall.
Witnesses say they saw the man throw the child and that the 26-year-old’s fall was broken because he first landed on a tree.
The man had been left alone briefly with the child by her mother.
In Patra, an officer with the DIAS motorcycle-riding squad reportedly talked down a 54-year-old who threatened to throw himself from the fifth floor of an apartment block.
The policeman, Andreas Kappos, went up to the fifth floor and convinced the man not to throw himself from the building.
