Young Greek rowing star dies after road accident
Evripidis Sklivanitis, a 20-year-old youth rowing star, died on Monday of injuries he sustained the day before in a road accident, prompting the nautical club of Ioannina, in northwestern Greece, to issue a message of condolence.
Sklivanitis was the son of Anastassios Sklivanitis, the general secretary of the regional association for rowers, which also issued a message of condolence.
The 20-year-old had been a national rowing champion from a young age and won several medals in European and world competitions, notably the silver in 2009 in the World Rowing Junior Championships.
