Farmer arrested after shooting policeman on Crete

A 50-year-old farmer has been arrested on Crete on suspicion of attempted manslaughter after he allegedly opened fire on four policeman that stopped his son’s car at a road block near Hania on Monday morning.

A 34-year-old police special guard was seriously injured in the incident and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

The man saw his son being stopped as he happened to be passing by the road block by chance.

He is alleged to have fired at the policemen with a shotgun.

He later handed himself in at his local police precinct.
