Robbers make off with post office safe in Halkidiki

Police in northern Greece were on Tuesday seeking a safe that unidentified robbers had ripped out from a branch of Hellenic Post (ELTA) in Nea Kallikratia, Halkidiki, in the early hours of the morning, making off with as estimated 19,000 euros.

According to police investigators, five assailants used a pickup truck to smash through the glass entrance of the ELTA branch at around 1.30 a.m.

They removed the safe, which had been screwed into the ground, loaded it onto the back of the truck and fled, according to witnesses.

Police found the vehicle abandoned a few blocks from the scene of the robbery.
