Drug squad busts two heroin-dealing gangs based in Kalamata

The Greek Police’s drug squad announced on Saturday the arrest of 21 suspects believed to belong to two drug-trafficking gangs who were active in the Peloponnese and Attica, dealing at least 170,000 euros’ worth of heroin.

Authorities have also issued charges against an additional 123 people who are suspected of involvement.

According to police, who launched a large-scale investigation following the seizure last year of nearly 1 kilogram of heroin during a drug bust, the gangs were centered in the southern Peloponnese city of Kalamata.

Raids on suspects’ homes also turned up some 36,000 euros in cash.
